Remote Working versus Working Remotely

Remote working and working remotely are two popular parlances in the workplace. They are both used to describe a worker who is not physically present in the office. In fact, the huge advantage of this method of working to business has made them an increasingly growing field. However, the question is, Is there any d9fference between the two terms remote working and working remotely? Are theory two interchangeable terms only differentiated by the arrangement of their words? 

The simple truth is there is a difference between working remotely and remote working. One is a term used to describe a company worker who is allowed to work from home for a given period of time. The worker might have to report once in a while. The other is a kind of business. The worker is not guided by any company’s policy. This article examines the key difference between the two terms. 

What is working from home?

If you work in an office that allows you to work remotely for say 2 days in the week while you resume office for the remaining 3 days, what you are operating is a work from home policy. Working from home is to a large extent guided by the company’s policy. In working from home, the worker usually has a physical office in the company irrespective of how many days he or she works remotely. The staff can be summoned at anything when there is a need for it. Working from home and work does not necessarily mean you are in control of your time. You are still guided by the company’s policy and might have to report your work through an email or other messaging platform. This method of working is very different from remote working.

What is remote working?

Remote working is very different from working remotely. In fact, a remote worker requires a different level of skill, commitment, and dedication. One of the facts that determine how effective a remote worker would be is the ability to manage time. Hence in remote working time management is essential. You shoot yourself short as a remote worker if you don’t have good time management and communication skills. The remote worker, in most cases, is the boss. Unlike working remotely, the remote worker does not necessarily have to report to the office. 

The remote worker usually creates the working environment he or she needs. The worker does not necessarily have to show face in the office and in most cases, there is no physical office space for the remote worker.

Among the two, the best factor that determines the one to go for is what works for you. If you are the type that gets easily distracted from work and waste time procrastinating, then remote working might not be a good choice.. Both remote working and working remotely are two great working methods. Find what works for you and stick to it.
