6 Steps You Should take In Problem Solving.

Problem-solving involves finding the possible causes of a problem and developing a plan that solves that problem. People use problem-solving skills regularly in their professional and personal lives.

It is important that employees and freelancers today have the ability to solve brain-tasking problems faced by businesses. This makes them valuable and helps the company grow.Ā

Effective problem-solving in the workplace often requires following a step-by-step process and using a designated problem-solving framework. These are some basic steps to follow when tackling a problem to ensure prompt resolution

Step 1: Identify the problem

No matter the size of the problem being faced, whether big or small, you need to have a clear understanding of what you are hoping to solve. If you are trying to tackle several problems then the tasks become tougher. If you have a team you work with, it’s imperative that everyone on the team have an understanding of the single problem being addressed.

Step 2: Carry out research

When you have a clear definition of the problem you are solving, the next step you must take is to engage in fact-finding and research. This helps you understand the problem better and its likely causes.

During this phase, the research may include looking into the causes of similar problems that have been resolved on previous occasions. Sometimes, you may need to create questions that you would ask those involved.

Step 3: Look for possible solutions

After you have taken the time to research the problem, then you should start thinking about possible solutions. This stage requires a high level of creativity and brainstorming as you think of ideal solutions.

You should also think of alternative solutions (plan B) should your first plan not work. To successfully solve problems, you should have some contingency plans in order to contain problems that may come up in the future.

Step 4: Make a decision

When you have successfully created possible solutions, methodically narrow the list you have to the best solution available.

If you have a team, carry everyone along as you try to make decisions together and ultimately arrive at a consensus solution.Ā

Step 5: Take Action

Implementation is usually tough but the most important step of the problem-solving process.Ā  Do not rush into action, because it will lead to a careless solution that would not achieve the intended result.

Step 6: Wait for resultsĀ

After you have taken action, you would need to observe how your solution is working. This helps you decide if further action would be needed. You can decide on a time frame that would be used for observation before you follow up and know if changes to the original plan are necessary.

These stages of problem-solving mentioned above have helped freelancers and business owners. When working on gigs, freelancers who apply these steps strictly tend to deliver better on projects and get better results. Become part of the global community of Entrepreneur on Bixex.
