Why Your Best Employees leave.

When a top employee leaves an organization, it can negatively affect the staff. Productivity may drop, the morale of others may reduce, and ultimately the colleagues may struggle with increased workloads. As a matter of fact, hiring new people is difficult and expensive.

The ideal solution is to keep your workers happy so they do not leave. Before an organization actively implements a plan to retain employees, it needs to find out why valuable employees are leaving. When this is deciphered, it helps the organization correct things and increases the chances of the staff to stay.

Let us have a look at some reasons why some people leave one employer for another.

Management Issues:

Leadership is an important aspect of the workplace. It shouldn’t be taken lightly. The management policy could help to retain top talents. Managing a team is not easy and it takes a lot of time to discover the team’s needs.  When the employees feel they aren’t carried along then they wouldn’t feel as if they were part of the organization.

Unprepared Managers:

The managers should have the adequate and necessary skills needed to manage and lead a team. When someone is good at his/her job, it doesn’t mean the person would be a good leader. Invest time in developing, coaching, and mentoring your managers. This would help them to align each team member with the right daily duties and help the person enjoy his/her job.

No room for growth:

When a person doesn’t see a clear path for growth then the person is more likely to leave. Everyone wants to advance in career and life. Every staff has to feel that there is something in for them personally. Your best talents may not want to manage people, so create a career path for them that they would not find in another organization.

Not checking in regularly:

Your organization needs to regularly keep in touch with great talents when it comes to career goals and plan. At least once every year, you need to engage your top performing employees to ascertain what their plans are and how the company can assist.

Rigid Workplace Policies:

If possible, the company should make work time as flexible as possible and adopt virtual work on selected days. The focus should be on delivering on job expectations not minding the mode of work. When there are rigid policies then your performing staff are going to jump ship if another company offers them a better work package.

Muddled Mission:

Clear-cut vision helps everyone in a company stay focused, it also spurs everyone to action. When your top-performing employees do not understand what the departmental and organizational goals are, it would affect their attitude to work. This would make them withdraw or isolate themselves sometimes and not give their all.
